Reading List

Learning about my own creative process and finding ways to be more productive are an important part of my life. Here are a few close-to-my-heart sources I presented at the 2017 New Music Gathering Conference at Bowling Green State University on a panel about productivity. If you have your own recommendations, please share them with me!

A quick read about fighting procrastination. I try to read it at least once a year.
"On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft" by Stephen King

The master of horror tells his story, and how he works to churn out a steady stream of material.
"Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life" by Anne Lamott

Great strategies for chipping away at big jobs.
"The Art of Work: A Proven Path to Discovering What Your Were Meant to Do" by Jeff Goins

A book about finding your life's work, and discovering the mentors around you.
"Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less" by Greg McKeown

All about focusing on the things that matter, and setting aside the things that do not.
"Comedian" (2002) by Jerry Seinfeld

One of the best documentaries about the creative process.
"The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction" by Neil Gaiman

A collection of forewords and speeches by Gaiman, often about making art.
